The Fertilizer Market

Urea NOLA

Urea NOLA Options In November 2012 began offering coverage of a new cleared fertilizer derivatives market – NOLA Urea options following the decision by LCH.Clearnet to provide clearing for the contract.

The NOLA Urea market has the largest participation and volumes in the fertilizer swaps maket. All stakeholders in the supply chain – traders, producers, wholesalers, distributors, end-users and financial institutions – are exposed to price risk in this highly volatile market.

With so many variables impacting prices, including supply and demand imbalances, grain prices, weather factors and foreign exchange movements, prices are rarely stable. FIS believes the existing depth of liquidity in the NOLA market provides an ideal platform for the introduction of fertilizer options.
