FIS Grows Physical Shipbroking Desk Into Middle East

London, 07/10/2026 – FIS, pioneering freight and commodity brokerage, has hired veteran brokers Christian Madsen and Nishant Dewan into its shipbroking team, expanding the firm’s geographical footprint into the Middle East.

Christian Madsen, General Manager – Physical (Dubai) said:

“We are delighted to join FIS and look forward to contributing to the development of its physical shipbroking desk. FIS is a well-known and respected firm, and we are excited to bring our experience to the team and continue providing our clients with the highest level of service.”

The two brokers bring a combined 30+ years of experience in the shipbroking industry and join from Lightship Chartering. They will be based in Dubai, a major maritime and commodity-trading hub providing FIS with an important base from which to further develop its physical shipbroking activities in the region.

FIS was one of the first commodity derivatives brokerages to set up an office in Dubai. The office was opened in 2013 with the Dry FFA desk being one of the first movers to the region.

The new hires strengthen FIS’s offering in the Middle East, with their location enabling the team to service clients across key international markets and time zones and providing more specialised coverage in the Pacific.

John Banaszkiewicz, Chairman and Founder said:

“We have always seen the potential that physical shipbroking could have at FIS as freight is a key driver for so many commodities. These new joiners show that shipbroking at FIS is going from strength to strength. We now have over 25 brokers across our global offices and hope to grow further. We continue to build on FIS’s expertise in freight and commodity derivatives, complementing it with services we can now offer in physical.”

The hires further expand FIS’s physical shipbroking services, which now comprises of brokers across its global network of offices with key centres in Athens, Geneva, and Dubai.
