Yesterday, Freight Investor Services completed the first Cobalt Hydroxide futures trade, a Cal 25 strip on the CME.
This trade adds to the list of firsts negotiated by the FIS Battery Metals desk and follows the Cobalt option trade of 15 December 2023, reflecting the growing interest of companies in the battery metals market.
Head of Battery Metals, Anna Chadwick, commented: “We are excited to be able to add another product to the battery metals suite. The addition of the Cobalt Hydroxide contract is testament to the appetite of counterparties to manage their price risk using an increasingly diverse set of tools”.
Both Cobalt and Cobalt Hydroxide prices play a key role in the pricing of EV batteries and the wider energy transition.
